I’m 48, I’ve been living for the last 25 years with the love of my life, we have a wonderful child who is on her way to becoming a wonderful adult. I know it’s possible to be happy when you’re a lesbian. I know it’s possible to be happy when you’re an out lesbian. I know it because I’m living it, every day.
Still, when I see pictures like these, taken on Saturday in Nice, at the end of the game for the third place of the Women’s World Cup, or these on Sunday in Lyon after the final game, I get butterflies in my stomach.
I don’t know how my 15-year-old self would have reacted to these images, whether I would have been ready to let them move me, but it could only have had a positive effect, ready or not.
So thank you.
